Salem High School students held a procession of respect and remembrance to celebrate the life of a beloved teacher who passed away suddenly.

English Teacher Jody McCracken passed away on October 7 due to complications from a heart attack.

She was 43 years old.

Salem police led Sunday's procession.

McCracken's brother, Patrolman Michael Wirkner, and her family also took part in the procession.

A school bus was also provided, so students who wanted to attend calling hours and the funeral service could travel to Damascus.

"She would help anyone that needed cheering up, and she just always wanted everyone to live life to the fullest," said Junior Dorothy Moore.

Administrators agreed.

"She did a lot of great things for us. I think it's only right that we can give back and show her family that she is one of us and always will be," said Principal Todd McLaughlin.

There was even one year where 72 out of 75 students invited her to their graduation parties, showing how much her students cherished her.
