Liberty police to display Humvee at Halloween Open House

LIBERTY TWP, Ohio - The Liberty Police Department will be showing-off a recently-acquired military vehicle during a Halloween Open House Thursday afternoon.
The department got the M998 Humvee from the Boardman police at no cost to the taxpayers through a federal Law Enforcement Support Office Program allowing law enforcement agencies to request military equipment.
Known by its military designation as the High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle, the HMMWV is a lightweight, highly mobile, diesel-powered, four-wheel-drive tactical vehicle that can carry a wide variety of military hardware ranging from machine guns to tube-launched, optically tracked, wire command-guided anti-tank missile launchers, according to Military.com
Liberty police say they'll use the Humvee for public relations events such as Shop with a Cop, National Night Out, and Coffee with a Cop. The M998 can also be used in the event of emergencies such as severe snowstorms or flooding, according to Liberty police.
The Liberty Police and Fire Departments are inviting people to bring their children dressed in costumes to play some games and get some candy.
The open house is scheduled for Thursday, October 31, 2019, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the township administration building, 1315 Churchill Hubbard Road.
