JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Mahoning County, Ohio - The Ohio Department of Transportation has reopened I-80 in both directions between Salt Springs Road in Weathersfield to the Ohio Turnpike in Jackson Township after a 50-vehicle pileup earlier today.

The lanes were closed so first responders can reach several accidents that began when a  tractor-trailer rolled over, blocking the ramp from the Ohio Turnpike to I-76 westbound.

Officials say that several people were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital after the crash. 

Alexander Penn, 22 of Youngstown, is reported to have life-threatening injuries and William Bradford, 62 of Springfield is reported to have suffered critical injuries.

The Canfield Highway Patrol urges anyone involved in the crash is urged to call 330-533-6866.

The eastbound land of I-80 was open while the westbound lane remained closed for cleanup. Two westbound lanes reopened around 9:30 p.m.

State Troopers began investigating the crash that happened around 10:18 am Tuesday, charges are pending.

Several other accidents are reported in the area, including a car that crashed into the disabled tractor-trailer. A large amount of other commercial vehicles are also part of the pile-up.

Rescue squads from North Jackson and Austintown facing white-out weather conditions have been called to the scene.

CPR was being performed on one of the people involved in the crash.

People were trapped in some of the vehicles.

Several wreckers have been dispatched to begin moving vehicles.
