Mercer County inmate accused of killing cellmate by strangling him with bed sheet
An inmate at SCI Mercer allegedly killed his cellmate Monday evening.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the incident happened at the Mercer State Correctional Facility in Findley Township around 8:50 p.m.
Police say 35-year-old Darl James Heverly strangled 35-year-old Jason Albert Kelly with a torn bedsheet.
The two inmates were being held inside a cell in the restricted housing unit.
State Police anticipate that Heverly will be charged with criminal homicide and other charges.
The Daily Item in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, reported in April 2007 that Heverly was sentenced to 29-58 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges that he kidnapped a 70-year-old woman.
Heverly is expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
