Giant Eagle will offer other jobs to workers at closing Greenville area store
HEMPFIELD TWP., Pa. - Thirty grocery workers will be offered jobs at other corporate-owned Giant Eagle stores when the store in the Greenville area store on Hadley Road closes on February 1, according to a statement from the food store chain.
A company official says nine other employees from the store's now-closed pharmacy are continuing to work at the Medicine Shoppe at 419 South Main Street, which Giant Eagle took over this week.
All Giant Eagle Pharmacy customer prescriptions have been transferred to the new location, and all Medicine Shoppe customer prescriptions continue to be available.
“We thank our customers for their years of patronage at this location,” said Giant Eagle spokesperson Dan Donovan. “While we are disappointed that we were unable to meet the community’s needs with our grocery offerings, we are glad that we will be able to continue to service customers at our new standalone pharmacy.”
Asked about where residents will now do their grocery shopping, Hempfield Township Supervisor Gary Hittle told 21 News that there is a Walmart and an Aldi not far from the Giant Eagle.
