Lowellville company settles racial harassment case filed by EEOC, NAACP

CLEVELAND, Ohio - A company located in Lowellville has agreed to resolve a racial harassment class case that was filed by the Youngstown branch of the NAACP.
According to the release, the NAACP filed a charge on behalf of employees of Falcon Foundry Company, alleging that company officials subjected employees to derogatory racial comments and that a noose was hanging at the facility.
The release says the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) found that minority employees were disciplined for violating company policies while white employees who violated the same policies were not.
Falcon Foundry conducted an internal investigation and trained employees while terminating the company official to address the claims.
All three parties signed an agreement arranged by the EEOC that will have Falcon Foundry give monetary relief to victims.
The company will also provide ongoing training regarding the issues and revise its policies and procedures.
"All employees have the right to work in an environment free of harassment and discrimination, and the EEOC is very pleased that Falcon Foundry Company worked with it to resolve this matter," said EEOC Philadelphia District Director Jamie R. Williamson.
