New Wilmington tavern to begin serving alcohol Saturday

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Ninety-nine years ago, the borough of New Wilmington in Lawrence county Pennsylvania declared it would be a "dry town," where alcohol could not be served. Ten years later, the Tavern on the Square opened and has been operating ever since under those rules.
On Saturday, all that will change.
At 1 p.m. on January 11, for the first time in its history, the Tavern will begin serving beer and wine to customers.
The change comes after voters approved lifting the ban on booze last May.
Todd Ulicny, the owner, said in a news release is an important move towards spurring the local economy.
"That the Tavern may now live up to its namesake as a true tavern serving beer, wine, and in a few months, cocktails, is an important step towards greater economic benefits to this community in the form of increased local employment and business tax revenue," Ulicny said.
