POLAND TWP., Ohio - A new program involving the Struthers court system is helping people get their lives back on track, while also assisting the Poland community.

The Poland Board of Trustees announced a program Wednesday night in collaboration with Judge Leone and his court's community service program and Republic Services.

The program allows non-violent offenders out of Struthers' court to work in the Poland community as part of their sentence or to pay off fines.

Trustee Eric Ungaro said it helps keep the township clean, while Judge Leon said it's a win-win for everyone.

"On 224, it's not just the garbage trucks that may cause litter, but you know, it is a main corridor. People throw stuff out of their car, so it's a good way for us to stay ahead of the game, beautify it a little bit to keep it looking good," said Ungaro.

"I think it means a lot that they can work it off in a positive way in the community, doing good things, things that we can all see locally," said Leon.

The program started last week, and those involved are under supervision while working in the community.
