Walmart giving workers $150-$300 bonuses

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Walmart says it will be handing out special cash bonuses to reward hourly employees at all U.S. stores, clubs, the supply chain, and offices for their hard work during the current coronavirus crisis.
The bonus will be $300 for full-time hourly employees and $150 for part-time hourly workers. Every hourly worker employed by the company as of March 1 will qualify, and it will payout on April 2.
According to a news release from Walmart, the bonuses will amount up to more than $365 million.
“Walmart associates have gone above and beyond the call of duty in serving our customers during these unprecedented times,” said Doug McMillon, President and CEO, Walmart. “We want to reward our associates for their hard work and recognize them for the work that is in front of us.”
Here in the Valley, Walmart has stores in Liberty, Boardman, Austintown, Salem, Cortland, and East Liverpool, Ohio, as well as Hermitage, Grove City, and Greenville, Pennsylvania.
In addition to that special bonus for hourly employees, Walmart says it will accelerate the next scheduled quarterly bonus for store, club, and supply chain employees a month early.
When it pays out in late April, Walmart says the money will help provide more cash in hand for employees sooner. The company says it will pay those bonuses as if the company achieved its first-quarter plan.
At the regularly scheduled time for bonus payout in May, that amount may increase for employees based on performance. In no case will an eligible worker receive less than the first quarter plan bonus payment. The early payout will add up to $180 million.
Hourly fourth-quarter bonuses were paid this week, meaning hourly employees will receive bonus payments on March 19, April 2, April 30, and May 28, according to Walmart.
Walmart also announced it is also hiring 150,000 temporary workers through the end of May to work in stores, clubs, distribution centers, and fulfillment centers. The company says some of those positions could eventually become full-time.
