1995: Over a period of two years, the Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp. has purchased more than 20 downtown properties which will be marketed for commercial and residential development. 

Youngstown's West Side Merchants and Civic Association is the first deputy motor vehicle registrar in Mahoning County to issue new plastic Ohio drivers licenses that include a bar code and a hologram to discourage fraud. 

Detective Sgt. Delphine Baldwin-Casey says city Prosecutor Maureen Cronin and Municipal Judge Patrick Kerrigan have made it easier for victims of domestic violence to find justice in Youngstown.
 
1980: Steven Masters charged with the Feb. 15, 1979, murder of his 19-year-old wife Jodi takes the stand in his own defense and testifies that he has a loving relationship with his wife. Masters, 20, is accused of shooting his wife five times before setting their Boardman home on fire. 

Struthers city council approves a one-year contract with the Western Reserve Transit Authority that will add two morning runs from Struthers to downtown Youngstown. The one year contract will be for $9,055, a $1,708 increase over the previous year. 

Ohio Edison Co. issues a warning to youngsters eager to celebrate the arrival of spring by flying kite: avoid power lines, use only non-conductive line and don't fly a kite in the rain. 

1970: Faye Heintzelman, 78, who served as a Boardman Township trustee for 40 years and a member of the Canfield Fair Board for 36 years, dies in South Side Hospital. He was known as "Mr. Boardman" by the Boardman Civic Association.

A group of civic leaders interested in a cleaner Youngstown watch as a bulldozer smashes through a huge sign at U.S. Steel's Ohio Works, breaking ground for a major installation of air-cleaning equipment.

1945: Youngstown and Toledo have been designated Class I labor markets by the War Manpower Commission because of critical manpower shortages.
