Red Cross urges healthy individuals to give blood

In the Valley, as coronavirus concerns intensify, the Red Cross needs healthy blood donors more than ever.
On Sunday, the Youngstown Jewish Community Center took action, hosting a blood drive in partnership with the Red Cross. The organization took extra precautionary measures during the blood drive to ensure the safety of all donors.
Michael Rawl, executive director of the Jewish Community Center, says the organization desperately needed this drive.
"The Red Cross expressed that they had a dire shortage of blood and there was already a shortage due to the flue season," Rawl said. "Now, they knew it was going to be even greater particularly because people were not showing up to their appointments and then everyone was canceling."
The cancellations were due to many concerned donors, worried about their safety given the circumstances.
The Red Cross is urging healthy individuals to donate now more than ever in efforts to flatter the curve and maintain the nation's blood supply.
