92 year old mother watches son's wedding from nursing home
NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - A much-need heartwarming sight in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, as vows were exchanged for the wedding of Lorrie and Harold Kelley. The former high school sweethearts "tied the knot" outside of Windsor Estates Assisted Living center, so Harold's 92-year old mother, Christine, could stand at the doorway and watch through the glass.
"Like everyone else, we had different plans at a church and a reception," said Harold Kelley. "But we're no different than anyone else; we had to cancel it. My mom was the most important in all of this, and this was the only way we could have her involved, and that means everything to us."
Though not exactly what they wanted, the newlyweds we're going to wait until everything settled down to get married, especially when someone was so excited to see it happen. Lorrie Graham-Kelley, the bride, says it all worked out perfectly.
"I mean, who has a mom that's 92," she said. "I mean, who knows when we can reschedule. She really wants to see this, and she's very excited."
Kelley says he couldn't be happier that his mother is at Windsor Estates Assisted Living, the center that made all of this come together, all while treating their residents so well.
"They take tremendous care of her," he said. "She couldn't be in a better place, and it just means the world to us that they're allowing her to be a part of this."
To top things off, Harold's son Sean Kelley is ordained and wasn't going to let such a special opportunity slip by.
"Given everything going on, to still be able to go through and have this moment with him and my grandma is indescribable," Sean said. "We have to look for these moments to latch onto and be a part of it with our family."
Even though the circumstances weren't ideal, the whole family is grateful it took place, especially for Harold Kelley.
"I'm just happy to be able to do it. We're both very happy. I'm a lucky man."
