YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A project to make a one-stop area for people to get help is moving forward.

After the state closed Youngstown Developmental Center, the building has sat empty, but it soon could have a new look after renovations and a new purpose.

Commissioners tell 21 News the Port Authority secured a half-million-dollar grant for needed renovations at the former Youngstown Development Center.

State lawmakers in the Valley have worked to get $1.5 million dollars in the state's budget bill.

Commissioner David Ditzler said, "It's an opportunity for all of these entities to be co-located in one central area and provide wrap-around services, whether people are disabled, whether people have autism, a lot of different things will be there to seek care and seek help."

Ditzler said they are hopeful the virus doesn't interfere with the state funding.

The goal is to have the facility open by the end of the year.

"Eight entities will be located in the central area. Our goal is to have them gradually move in. The entities include Easter Seals, Alta, Compass, Meridian Services, Flying High, Potential Development and Homes for Kids. The center will be called Campus of Care," said Ditzler.
