State police arrested two people following a high-speed chase in Mercer County over the weekend.

Police say they tried to pull over a VW Jetta for a traffic violation on the Interstate 79 ramp at Route 208 Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the car sped away north on I-79 the turned west on Interstate 80 at a high rate of speed.

After traveling into Ohio, the car turned back into Pennsylvania, running over spike strips placed by police to shred the tires.

The car went out of control and stopped near Exit 4 of I-80.

The driver, 21-year-old Taylor Perkins of North Braddock, Pa. was jailed on charges of fleeing and eluding, DUI, and recklessly endangering another person.

The passenger, 28-year-old Robert Broadie of Pittsburgh was cited for possession.
