More than 50,000 jobless claims filed in Ohio over the last reporting week

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services has released its weekly unemployment numbers across the state.
For the week ending in May 9, the ODJFS reported 51,125 in initial jobless claims to the U.S. Department of Labor.
The number of initial jobless claims filed in Ohio over the last eight weeks (1,169,694) is more than the combined total of those filed during the last three years.
Over these last eight weeks, ODJFS has distributed more than $2.4 billion in unemployment compensation payments to more than 587,000 claimants.
Of the more than one million applications the agency has received, 90 percent have been processed, with only 10 percent pending.
ODJFS urges individuals to file their claims online, if possible, at unemployment.ohio.gov.
