Mercer County, Pa. - On Saturday, a special delivery was made to various EMS services in Mercer County to kick off National EMS week, showing support and appreciation to first responders. 

The deliveries, nicknamed "#dessertdrop" are co-sponsored by Buhl Regional Heath Foundation and The Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern Ohio. Weber Catering, LLC of New Wilmington provided cookies, while a special chocolate donation was made from Daffin's Candies. 

"#dessertdrop" will continue through Saturday, May 23 in lieu of an annual picnic celebration. EMS services honored Saturday included McGonigle Ambulance Service (Hermitage), ELITE EMS (Hermitage), Life Force Ambulance of Western Pa (Greenville), Superior Ambulance Service & Training Institute, (Grove City, PA) and the Mercer County Department of Public Safety/Mercer County Enhanced 9-1-1 Services. 

 

Sponsored "#dessertdrops" and lunches are all part of the "#SupportOurFirstResponder" program through the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, which started on March 26 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a release from Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Sherris Moreira, to date, the program has helped coordinate for the $10,000 of investment back into the local restaurant, catering and candy community since the shut down began. The group has also showed support of more than 35 different police and fire departments, hospitals, doctor offices and other medical teams serving the Shenango Valley and Mercer County community.
