1995: Judge Nathaniel R. Jones, who is taking senior status with the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, who received his bachelor's degree in 1951 from Youngstown College and law degree in 1956 from Youngstown University, is honored at a banquet at Mr. Anthony's.

Leaders of the Youngstown NAACP say they support the use of tax abatements to encourage development, but the city needs to ensure that companies follow the rules for minority hiring. 
 
Wittenberg University will award an honorary degree to the Rev. Mr. Dale R.  Griffin, senior pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Youngstown.
 
1980: Westinghouse Electric Corp. announces that it will transfer several product lines and transformer component operations from its Sharon plant to a newly acquired facility in Alamo, Tenn. More than 400 local jobs will be lost.  

Ohio's Consumer Counsel William Spratley will headline at a Consumers Combatting Inflation workshop at Youngstown State University.

New computerized voting machines are put into operation for the primary election in Trumbull County.
 
1970: Charles Henry, a 15-year-old Rayen School student, is shot dead by a motorist after one of a group of boys threw a bottle at the car. Police are seeking the driver of a customized 1959 or 1960 Chevrolet.

Anthony C. Cook is elected president of the Canfield Rotary Club. 

Hubbard High School presents diplomas to 297 graduates, the school's largest senior class in history. Edgar Wagner is valedictorian; Anne Bruner is salutatorian.
 
1945: Youngstown enacts a $10 annual tax on jukeboxes. There are 348 machines licensed in the city.

Dr. Paul Anderson is named president of Pennsylvania College for Women, joining his brother Prof. Hurst Anderson, who has been president of Centenary Junior College in New Jersey. They are the sons of Dr. and Mrs. Foster C. Anderson of Youngstown. 

Youngstown Country Club will host the Sgt. Andy Alcroft Memorial Tournament, the first tournament on the course in seven years.
