What are the odds? Well, the odds of making it to meet Alex Trebek and appearing on the syndicated game show "Jeopardy!" are a longshot.

About 100,000 people audition via the online test each year and from that, between 3,000 to 4,000 potential contestants gets narrowed down to only 400 who actually make the show each year.

But this Friday, June 12, Youngstown native and 2011 Westminster College alumna Kelly Lake will join that elite list.

Making it to the “Jeopardy!” stage and meeting Trebek has been a longtime ambition for Lake, a lover of trivia who was very active with the academic competition Quiz Bowl in high school. Lake has been taking the online “Jeopardy!” test since 2008. She made it in-person auditions in 2015 and 2018 and finally was called to appear on the show this year.

The episode was taped in March doesn't include a studio audience because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Lake earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Westminster and is currently an associate producer at Illumination Entertainment, an animation studio based in Los Angeles. Originally from Youngstown, she now resides in the Pasadena area.
