Race in the Valley: Black Owned Business Forum

Trumbull county, Ohio - Black business owners from Mahoning and Trumbull County came together for a round table discussion live on WFMJ Today, Tuesday morning.
Conversations about race relations and the realities of owning a black business were highlighted during the conversation.
Many business owners talked about funding for black businesses, the importance of supporting black businesses not only when it's trending due to our current racial climate. Others hit on the importance of viewing black businesses as legitimate businesses; not only for blacks to support. The majority of owners felt they have had to work harder and go the extra mile to prove themselves because they are black.
Youngstown Flea Founder, Derrick McDowell said when he began Youngstown Flea he made sure he was not the face of the event so people could have the chance to see his vision and heart without preconceived notions.
