A petition is circulating throughout the Valley in efforts to remove Warren Assistant Law Director, Traci Timko Sabau, after she posted a controversial statement regarding police reform on her Facebook page.

Her post said, in part, "...where are all of these policing and use of force 'experts' coming up with this garbage and why are they at least not smart enough to know how dumb they sound..."

Timko continued her post, saying ..."your uneducated opinions are stupid and damaging."

The petition has nearly 2,500 signatures with support from community leaders like Reverend Todd Johnson, Pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church and Thomas Conley, Greater Warren-Youngstown Urban League President.

"I fully support it and I hope that civil rights organizations in our community would join with those voices," Johnson said.

Bria Bennett created the petition and sent it to Warren city officials including the Mayor and Chief of Police.

"Everybody is a part of social media but as an elected official you're held to a higher standard," Bennett said.

She said the comments Timko included in her Facebook post should not be posted from a city official.

"It just calls into question how seriously we're going to be taken," Bennett said.

Conley said he is glad young people are taking initiative to make a change and raise awareness where it's needed.

"They're paying attention and it's about time," said Conley. "Because I can recall being out there and being almost alone in my efforts."

Both Johnson and Conley agree Bennet's actions creating the petition will make a difference in the community.

As of Friday evening, she has not heard back from any city official regarding her petition.
