Valley corn crop looks good for early July

As the old saying goes, for a good corn crop you should aim for your corn to be at least knee-high by the Fourth of July, so how has the Valley's corn crop done so far.
"Our sweet corn crop is coming right along here, we've been a little bit dry, we've been irrigating water on it," says Rick Molnar.
Rick Molnar of Molnar Farms says the recent heat has helped the corn rebound from a cold blast in May. They should be picking the first of their crop this week but still need some rain to help further later crop along.
"We're comparable to Southern Ohio this year because Southern Ohio was so cold too so we are right on schedule with them pretty much," adds Molnar.
Angiuli's Farm in Canfield says they were delayed as much as 10 days because of the cold shot but are set to pick their first round of sweet corn sometime next week.
"With this warm spell we had and a little bit of rain we got last night, it will push it ahead. Hopefully, the other plantings we have in the ground will be on time and we will have a nice, once we start with sweet corn it will be consistent every week we will have a crop ready," adds Carl Angiuli.
Crop around the Buckeye State is pretty similar to here in Northeast Ohio. All signs point to that cold shot at the start of May for that delay in the corn crop.
