BROOKLYN, NY - The woman who restored a Youngstown landmark has passed away.
Jane Walentas passed away Tuesday and was known in the Brooklyn and Youngstown areas as the woman who restored the Idora Park carousel. She was also a benefactor for DUMBO.
Walentas spent decades restoring the carousel, purchasing it in the 1980s and scraping its paint away by hand.
The project lasted into the 2010s when it was placed underneath the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
The former Idora Park centerpiece is still in operation today due to Walentas' work under the name Jane's Carousel.
