Boardman teacher named Teacher of the Year for District 8

BOARDMAN, Ohio - A Boardman Local Schools teacher has been named Ohio District 8 Teacher of the Year for 2021.
Boardman Glenwood Junior High technology teacher Tim Harker received the award from the Ohio Department of Education.
The award was created in 1964 and identifies the exceptional teachers throughout the state with District 8 comprising 12 counties.
Harker is a 24-year teaching veteran at Boardman Schools and established the Maker Space program at Glenwood five years ago.
The Maker Space program is designed for students to use engineering and design principles to invent and create. Harker was also instrumental in a cross culture project between Boardman students and a group from a small village in Thailand.
Sine schools were ordered to close, Harker began making face shields with 3D printers for essential workers in the area.
"Boardman Local Schools is blessed to have exceptional educators, and Tim Harker is one of the most well-rounded and passionate individuals I have ever met," said Glenwood Principal Bart Smith.
