Senator Sherrod Brown along with 25 other Senate Democrats sent a letter to President Trump calling for him to reopen the Affordable Care Act's (ACA) marketplace.

The Senators say reopening the marketplace will allow more people to enroll in health insurance and access federal subsidies, and ensure that seniors can enroll in Medicare coverage as they face potential health issues due to COVID-19.

According to the release, the Senators asked President Trump to authorize an ACA Special Enrollment Period that would allow those who did not sign up for insurance during the regular enrollment period.

Brown and his colleagues previously asked the U.S. Department of Health to reopen the ACA marketplace but they did not.

"We urge that you take seriously the challenges that millions of people are facing in our country and reopen enrollment for the federally-run ACA Marketplace and to utilize the tools you have to ensure access to the Medicare Program," the senators concluded.
