Son of Austintown teacher dies in fiery tanker crash

AKRON, Ohio - The victim of a fatal crash involving a gasoline tanker has been identified as the son of a teacher in the Austintown School District.
The Summit County Coroner says 18-year-old Jared Marcum of North Canton died Tuesday when the car he was driving collided with the tanker on Route 8 in Akron shortly before 8 a.m.
The collision resulted in a fire that shut down the highway for several hours, causing heavy damage to the road surface.
Marcum is the son of Jason Marcum, who is a special education teacher at Austintown Intermediate School.
Austintown School Superintendent David Cappuzzelo expressed his condolences, noting that yesterday would have been Jared Marcum’s second day at Akron University.
The driver of the tanker truck did not sustain any serious injuries, according to Akron police.
