YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -
A move by Youngstown City Council that would allow them to decide how much the city's finance and law directors get paid is on hold, at least for the time being.
Currently, under the city's charter, the two salaries are tied to the mayor's. Meaning if one were to get a raise and reduction in pay -- they all would.
Council is considering changing this portion of the city's charter so that the pay rates are set independently of one another. However, the change would require taxpayer approval.
Council voted 5-2 to put the issue on the November ballot, but because it was an emergency measure, the vote required six votes for approval. Therefore, the measure will not make the November ballot in time.
