Salem man charged with assaulting Sebring Police, EMT's

SEBRING, Ohio - A Salem man is in the Mahoning County Jail, accused of assaulting a Sebring Police officer and two Emergency Medical Technicians after allegedly threatening to shoot people at a residential facility for seniors.
Scott Schlemmer, 60, was booked into jail Saturday on three counts of assault on a police officer, inducing panic, and disorderly conduct.
The charges stemmed from a July 7 incident when police were called to Copeland Oaks Crandall Medical Center on 15th Street after staff members said that Schlemmer threatened to bring a gun and shoot people.
The investigating officer reported that since Schlemmer appeared to be incoherent and was slurring his words as he was walking to his car, she called EMT’s to evaluate him.
Once inside the ambulance, police say that Schlemmer waived his arms and kicked his legs, almost striking the officer and both EMT’s.
Charges were filed after Schlemmer was taken to a hospital in Alliance for evaluation.
Bond was set at $15,000 for Schlemmer, who is scheduled for arraignment in county court on Thursday.
