Mercer County tear gas protesters plead guilty to reduced charge

GREENVILLE, Pa. - A Mahoning County man and four other people pleaded guilty to a reduced charge Tuesday during a court hearing for last month's protest outside a Mercer County company that makes so-called "less-than-lethal" weapons used to control riots and other disturbances.
Charles William Denison, 41, of Lake Milton, along with three people from Philadelphia and one from Connecticut, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. Other charges, including riot, false imprisonment, failure to disperse, obstructing law, and criminal trespass, were dropped.
All five were sentenced to one year of probation.
The five were arrested after state police say they blocked the entrance to Combined Systems Incorporated in Greene Township.
Thirty-five people gathered to demonstrate against the manufacture of tear gas, which demonstrators say has been used to disperse recent "Black Lives Matter" and other protests.
Troopers say they found five protestors had their arms linked in front of the gate, which had been padlocked, keeping CSI employees from entering or leaving.
Police were called from Mercer, Meadville, Butler, along with the State Police Civil Unrest Response Team, the County Sheriff, and PennDOT as a stretch of Route 58 was closed during the confrontation.
When the protesters refused to leave after six hours at the gate, police arrested the five.
The other four people sentenced include:
Cassidy Amanda Regan, 32, Redding, CT
Torren Melone Smith, 32, Philadelphia, PA
Aniqa Fairooz Raihan, 24, Philadelphia, PA
Pauline Acker Blount, 29, Philadelphia, PA
