NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - A popular New Wilmington restaurant has announced that they are closing permanently.

The Tavern on the Square announced the closure Saturday.

They say the impact of COVID-19 is the reason for the closure.

Tavern on the Square owners urged people to continue to support other local and independent restaurants and businesses, saying they are not OK and that many more could suffer the same fate.

The restaurant had been in business for nearly 90 years. Prior to becoming Tavern on the Square, the home was part of the underground rail road in the 1800's.

Their final day of operation will be October 3.
