Pennsylvanians are urged to check their voter registration status as the deadline to register for the Nov. 3 election gets closer.

The deadline to register for the election is Oct. 19. People can go online to check their voter status.

The deadline is the last day for eligible Pennsylvanians to apply for a new voter registration or make changes to an existing registration.

"Now is the time to make sure you are registered to vote, and your registration information is current before the deadline in less than two weeks," Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar said. "We want every eligible Pennsylvanian to be able to exercise their right to vote on election day."

Pennsylvania's voter registration total is 8,908,777, an apparent record high, according to Boockvar.

People can vote in person at their county election office before the election, or at the polls on Nov. 3. People can also vote using a mail-in ballot. The deadline to apply for a mail ballot is 5 p.m. on Oct. 27.

Boockvar said that counties have approved nearly 2.5 million mail ballot applications, and 95 percent of those ballots have been mailed or are about to be mailed to voters.
