Boardman Girls Volleyball 'Give Back Game' helps Valley principal after losing arms and legs

BOARDMAN, Ohio -
Boardman High School's Girls Volleyball team hosted their annual "Give Back Game."
This time, proceeds are going to a Poland woman who woke up in a hospital bed with no arms and legs.
Kristin Fox said she was overwhelmed by all of the support when she saw the gym filled with purple t-shirts that said "Stay Strong Kristin."
The Campbell teacher, who is still off work recovering and learning her new way of life, attended the game against Austintown Thursday evening with her husband and two children.
"This community has embraced us and we don't even live here," said Fox who resides in Poland. "They have been amazing and it's just these girls really put this behind them."
Proceeds from the Basket raffles, t-shirt sale, a 50/50 and a bake sale are all going back to Fox as she continues to fight after being hospitalized in March with Type A influenza and pneumonia. Her illness resulted in the loss of of her arms and legs.
The 39-year-old has come a long way since she was hospitalized.
She now has bionic hands that respond to her mind and can also be controlled by an app on her phone. She has also learned to stand up using her prosthetic legs. She accomplished that mile stone three weeks ago.
"Learning the core strength you need in your quads and your core just to stand up. The first time I stood up was amazing. Because it was from March until three weeks ago until I stood up."
Her sister-in-law is the head coach for the Girls Volleyball team.
"I told my girls, this is what sports is all about," said Alyssa Birch. "Boardman and Austintown Fitch, they would normally be rivals. But now they are just coming together tonight and doing something powerful together."
