Congressman Tim Ryan announced federal appropriations funding for an additive manufacturing program that will create new engineering jobs as well as further technology behind 3-D printing.

The program is a joint effort between the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining and Center Street Technologies.

They received over 9-million dollars to further Center Street Technologies' Massive Area Additive Manufacturing machine.

"It's gonna help the military because they're gonna be able to get products that are cheaper because they're done quicker and more effectively using less materials," Ryan said. "So that's gonna save money, it's gonna benefit the environment and it's gonna benefit the whole Valley," he said.

They plan to combine additive manufacturing and more conventional machining to be able to complete a finished product within one system called hybrid manufacturing.

The additive manufacturing community plans to take information they've learned over the course of running the program and share their knowledge with the Valley so everyone can take advantage of the benefits.

"The bottom line here is that the people who are gonna benefit most are the military and really, the economy here," Ryan said. "The young people are gonna have opportunity here that they otherwise wouldn't have had," he said.
