Columbiana County joined forces with Mahoning County and Trumbull County to urge the public to stay home ahead of the upcoming holidays.

COVID-19 cases are on the rise and hospitals are seeing an impact from the rising cases.

Columbiana County is seeing 150-200 new cases daily and exceeding 1000 cases a week.

Mahoning County is averaging 171 new cases daily.

Trumbull County is averaging 161 new cases daily.

On November 19, Mahoning County saw a single-day high of 236 cases.

Mahoning County Health Commissioner Ryan Tekac said, " Now more than ever, we need the community to help reduce the spread of COVID-19."

He also said, "It's making that small minor change that can make a difference."

Mahoning County has issued a stay-at-home advisory to the public ahead of Thanksgiving.

Trumbull County is having a meeting later today and is likely to issue a stay-at-home advisory to the public.

Columbiana County is not expected to issue a stay-at-home advisory.

The hospitals are also seeing an impact from the rising cases and staffing levels are stressed.

Frank Migliozzi, Health Commissioner for Columbiana County said, "They are definitely seeing surges within their facilities as well as seeing staff shortages. They are managing the situation the best they can."

The three local health departments make the following recommends:

  • Consider an alternative Thanksgiving celebration this year with just members of your own household
  • Stay home unless you have to make a necessary trip
  • Keep your "close contact bubble" small which reduces your risk of contracting COVID-19 and the need for quarantine
  • Always stay home when you feel ill
  • Wear your mask when you are around others who do not live in your household
