Since going fully remote, Campbell City School officials created a food distribution program for the district's students.

"This is something we were planning and worked really hard on," said Matthew Bowen, Campbell City Schools Superintendent. "We made sure we had the shipments here to the school. We packed, we organized, we loaded the buses."

Red Devil Meal Dash delivers 7 days worth of breakfast and lunch to all students in the district with help through the USDA and the Ohio Department of Education. Campbell staff uses school buses to do contactless delivery on student's front door steps.

"We have educational assistants, bus drivers and cooks that want to help and serve our children," Bowen said. "This is really a win for everyone."

Instead of families in the district opting-in to food delivery, Campbell City Schools just has an opt-out version. That way all families can receive food right at their doorsteps unless they choose not to.

"It's a very prideful community and we never want to put our families in a situation where they have to ask for help and ask for support," Bowen said.

Bowen said if students have balanced meals, this only helps their learning abilities and the district will continue to meal dash if they stay remote.
