Model volunteer fights hunger in the Valley

Retired superintendent of Boardman schools, Frank Lazzeri, has dedicated himself to the welfare of others by donating his time as a volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank.
When the pandemic began to hit businesses and organizations hard and the food bank had to send many of their volunteers home, Frank immediately stepped in and insisted on helping out as much as possible.
"Once I retired, I said to my wife, 'I'm not going back to work," said Lazzeri. "It's time for me to give back to the community. I was in public education and people paid my salary by paying taxes. It's my opportunity now to give back," he said.
In addition to Lazzeri volunteering in the Valley, his background as an educator and dedication to helping others has made him the food bank's chief storyteller.
He gathers and tells the stories of those present at the food bank and then takes that information and uses it in the Second Harvest newsletter.
"Some of the information may even be used to write grants so that we can get more resources to feed more people," said Lazzeri.
He believes everyone has a responsibility to give back, in their lifetimes.
