CANFIELD, Ohio -  An insurance company has filed a more than $700,000 lawsuit against the landlord of Canfield bridal shop that went up in flames last year.

A civil lawsuit has been filed in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court by Selective Insurance of South against JAK Realty of Cleveland.

The suit alleges that a July 28, 2019 fire that destroyed Toula’s Bridal and other businesses in the Summit Plaza on Boardman Canfield Road, was caused by a faulty neon sign.

The insurers say that JAK Realty failed to maintain the sign, left behind by Sunkiss Tanning ten years prior to the fire.

Toula's Bridal estimated that nearly 2,000 dresses were at the store ranging from $1,800 to $5,000 each.

The lawsuit seeks to reclaim $739,052 in damages caused by the fire, as well as legal fees.

Toulas has since moved to a new location along Route 224.

JAK has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
