SALEM, Ohio -  An annual effort will once again make sure that children throughout Columbiana County will receive a toy this holiday.

The Brightside Project hosts its fifth annual Bright Christmas event this coming Saturday.

Toys will be distributed directly to the children on Saturday, December 19th from 9 am to 4 pm in a heated tent outside of The Brightside Project's facility located at 138 S. Broadway Ave. Salem for children ages 3-15 years old in Columbiana County.

Children will receive a new toy, stuffer toys, non-perishable food items, Christmas books, and a snack-to-go.  In addition, Mrs. Claus will be there to greet the children and the Family Recovery Education Department will be distributing Resource Kits to children.

"This year has been so hard on local families and children because of the Coronavirus Pandemic," says Lisa Wallace, Co-Director of The Brightside Project, "We know that they could all use some hope this holiday season and we are excited to still be able to host our annual event in a safe way to give hope to children in the county."

For the past 5 years, local businesses and individuals have donated new toys to the children served by the project.  Last year, Bright Christmas reached out to children in Columbiana County and gave toys to 225 children

Everyone attending is asked to follow state-mandated COVID-19 safety precautions including social distancing, mask-wearing, hand sanitizing, and temperature taking.

Parents and guardians are asked to bring their photo I.D., proof of being a Columbiana County resident, and their eligible children.

The Brightside Project reaches out to equip and empower children in Columbiana County and surrounding areas to help them reach their full potential. To learn more visit www.brightsideprojectohio.org
