First Night Youngstown to host 9 p.m. fireworks on New Year's Eve

Like just about every other public event this year, concerns over spreading COVID-19 have caused Youngstown to scale back plans to ring in the New Year.
First Night Youngstown has decided to cancel the usual festivities that everyone enjoys on New Year's Eve.
However, plans are still on for a 9 p.m. firework display in accordance with Governor DeWine's state-wide curfew.
There will be no fireworks display at midnight as originally planned.
The firework display will be at the end of the Market Street bridge.
Crews have already started setting up for the night and closed down the lanes of Market Street.
“Being the 20th-anniversary celebration of First Night Youngstown, we wanted to plan a huge celebration with the community, but with safety in mind, we believe this abbreviated celebration is still important to host,” said First Night President Samantha Turner in a news release.” Our community has been through very challenging times this year and we want to be able to create some joy that is commonplace this time of year.”
Usually, one of Downtown Youngstown's biggest events of the year, First Night in the past, have included skating, food, carriage rides and other activities.
People are being asked to follow the social distancing guidelines and mask mandates put in place by the governor.
21 News will be streaming the fireworks on the 21 News app and on the 21 News Facebook page.
