The Burghill Vernon Fire Department gives its first wave of vaccines to many working on Trumbull County's frontlines.

The fire department was needed as an extra resource to distribute to COVID-19 vaccine.

"When the announcement was made that the vaccine was going to come out, the health department had realized that we were going to have issues with manpower being able to distribute the vaccine amongst everyone in that tier-1 group," said The Burghill Vernon Fire Cheif George Synder. " With that being said, they looked to contract out the services of providing it to specific groups, in which our case was to the EMS providers."

The department is promised 150 doses for credentialed first responders.

The fire department started to vaccine EMS workers at 9 a.m.

Within the first two hours of being opening, the department vaccinated over 64 frontline workers.

Almost 100 workers were vaccinated today with the Moderna Vaccine- which requires two doses.
