WARREN, Ohio - The boyfriend of the Warren mother accused of locking her young son in the basement without food is behind bars.

James Jethroe, 32, was arrested on Monday after a warrant was issued for him.

He was booked on charges of child endangering.

Jethroe was arraigned Tuesday morning and plead not guilty.

Police said Jethroe is the boyfriend of 31-year-old Canchata Allgood, who is accused of rarely feeding her five-year-old soon and keeping him in the basement of their Austin Avenue home.

She is also behind bars charged with child endangering.

Reports of the incident say cameras were allegedly set up to send alerts if the child were to come upstairs.

Officials described the 5-year-old boy as just skin and bones, emaciated with bruising and injuries from head-to-toe.

Four other children were removed from the home just days before Christmas.

At last check, the child was in the care of Akron Children's Hospital.

Jethroe's bond is set at $100,000. He has another court date later this month.

He is also not allowed to have any contact with young children.
