1996: More than 160 Cleveland Browns fans take buses to Atlanta to attend the NFL owners' meeting and express their opposition to Art Modell's plan to move the team to Baltimore.
 
One-time Phar-Mor magnate Michael Monus has begun serving his prison term for fraud at the Milan, Mich., Federal Correction Institution. He is scheduled to be released Dec. 8, 2012.  
 
Druce Martin, 21, of Struthers escapes the death penalty when a jury finds him guilty of murder rather than aggravated murder in the shooting deaths of Toby S. Flack, 21, of Struthers and Stacey Kroner, 17, of Boardman on a bridge spanning McKelvey Lake on Aug. 13, 1994.
 
1981: Mahoning County commissioners say almost all of the 200 county employees who have been laid off will lose their jobs permanently, even if a piggyback sales tax is reinstated because the county can no longer afford a workforce of 800 people.

Conrail will reopen its Haselton Yards, closed for a year, and close its Brier Hill switching yard, reducing the time needed to complete its downtown rail relocation project and shaving $2 million from the cost. 
 
1971: Ray Huff, an off-duty Liberty police officer working at the Lawson Dairy on Belmont Avenue, and Nick Rogozan, owner of Keifer's Cafe in Warren, are hospitalized after being shot in separate robberies.
