Daniel Minenok, 19, who is from New Castle, was involved in a crash with a garbage truck on Pulaski Road in Neshannock Township, Lawrence County.
The force of the collision was so great it caused Minenok's engine to rip out of his white Honda Civic.
He was taken to St. Elizabeth's in Youngstown for treatment of his injuries.
Coach Doug Phillips posted his well wishes to Twitter Wednesday morning.
He told 21 News Minenok was on his way home from practice when the crash happened.
His goal is to someday become a football coach.
