The Newton Falls boys basketball team survived a close affair with Liberty Thursday night at home, winning 59-58. With just two seconds remaining, Joey Kline nailed a jump shot to give the Tigers a one point lead before time expired.

Kline scored a game-high 28 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Josh Honeycutt chipped in 17 points and six assists for Newton Falls, which improves to an overall record of 12-5 and 8-2 in the league.

The Leopards were led by Jameer Weaver, who poured in 26 points. James Davis added 12 points and D'Andre Venters scored another 7.

There's a chance these two teams could meet again in the upcoming OHSAA high school basketball tournament.

Newton Falls is set to host East Palestine Tuesday, Feb. 23 in round one of the Div. III Northeast 2 District playoffs, with the winner advancing to play Liberty in the quarterfinals.

Newton Falls is the No. 3 seed in Div. III while Liberty holds the No. 14 seed, respectively.
