Teacher's message of 'We are in this COVID crisis together' spreads

A teacher in Liberty who went out of her way to let students know that we are in this COVID crisis together finds out months later she is not alone as she battled COVID-19.
Darnelle Clark wants everyone who has prayed and supported her to know that she is grateful to God, thankful for them and that she is home from the hospital after a brutal battle with COVID-19.
Clark is also working hard to get back to teaching the students she loves.
After the pandemic began, Darnelle Clark, a first-grade teacher at Liberty Elementary school, created Clark's Cozy Corner, a place on YouTube where students could listen and take part as Clark read them books virtually every day.
Clark even began creating graphics to go along with her creative and enthusiastic storytelling as a way to show kids we are in this COVID crisis together.
But Clark, who has asthma and preexisting conditions, had no idea a visit to the emergency room in January would turn into a month-long hospitalization and battle against COVID-19.
Word spread, and soon her students, parents, people in the community, in her school district, and even other districts decided to show they're in her corner by wearing her favorite color in a hashtag yellow for the Darnell campaign.
Jessica Kohler, Principal of Liberty Elementary School, said, "Her YouTube program doing her interactive read aloud with the kids was so appreciated by her families. She has become a YouTube Sensation at the school by the way she gives of herself to the community, kids, and people around her. Anything families need, she would be there to help out."
"We had a group donate 1,200 yellow masks for our staff and our students. We will be wearing yellow again for her any chance we get to show her we are behind her 110 percent. I think we are definitely showing her how much she means to us... We are just trying to give back to her. We are not going to stop," added Kohler.
Clark said, "Sometimes after a medical emergency, I glanced at my phone, and it said yellow for Darnell, and it really has uplifted me more than you'll ever know. They have sent me videos that have blessed my spirit and encouraging words. I haven't been able to send a video to them yet, but I've definitely received every seed of love they've sent me."
"I know in my heart God will heal me. I miss my kids. I miss my community. I feel like right now, I'm not able to be there for people how I desire to be, but hopefully, people know I'm fighting my way back to everybody. I am just so thankful for everyone uplifting me in their prayers and their warm wishes."
As Clark navigates, gaining strength to walk again and do things she normally did, she thanks God, her family, a team of medical professionals, co-workers, and community, along with her students, for prayers, encouraging words, and a sea of yellow.
"I miss them so much, and my school has been so beautiful and rallied behind me, and everyone has stepped up and pulled together to take care of my students, but I wish it was me. But I know at the moment I can't, but I'm doing everything I can to make my way back to them for sure," emphasized Clark.
