Police charge Youngstown man shot at Niles apartment

NILES, Ohio - A Youngstown man who Niles police say was shot by the mother of his child has been charged with aggravated burglary.
The charge was filed in Niles Municipal Court against 27-year-old Rodney Darrell Cole.
The woman called 9-1-1 early Tuesday, telling a dispatcher that she shot her boyfriend in the chest at her Royal Mall apartment. The woman claimed she thought her boyfriend "was someone else".
When police arrived, Cole told police had been shot at a local bar.
When police asked the 24-year-old woman why it appeared that the apartment’s back door had been kicked open, the woman told officers that Cole had forced his way inside, walking to an upstairs bedroom with a gun, where the woman and her child were at the time.
According to police, the woman said she pulled out her own gun and shot Cole, who was taken to Mercy Hospital in Youngstown, where he is being treated for a serious gunshot wound.
