He was one of the most famous professional boxers of all time and he once called the Mahoning valley his home.
But Mike Tyson lost it all following a 1992 rape conviction, including his 58 acre estate in Southington.

Reporter, Matt Stone took a look inside the champ's old home which has now found a whole new purpose.

"Now think of this," said Pastor Nick DeJacimo, as he walks through what used to be Tyson's bedrooms on one side of the mansion, "This was all taken to the studs. All the way back. All new plumbing, all new wiring, all new insulation, all new lighting, everything is new!"

It may be the most extreme of any extreme home makeover.

Left abandonded for 10 years Mike Tyson's multi-million dollar estate changed owners a few times before being donated to Living World Sanctuary Church in 2015.

Since that time, church members have gutted and restored nearly every square inch of the estate to turn it into a worthy house of worship.
It took nearly $1.5 million dollars of materials to make it look like this. All the work was done by church-goers over a period of nearly 6 years.

When the pastor first saw Tyson's pool area, he says he knew it already had the makings of a church sanctuary. But that pool had to be filled in by hand.

"We literally filled up the place with sand and kept packing it and packing it. Two years later after we ran all the plumbing and electric and all we needed to do to actually pour concrete and fill it," said DeJacimo.

There's thousands of square feet of natural woodwork throughout the church, from the sanctuary to what used to be Tyson's living room, volunteers spent countless hours hand cleaning every inch of it, staining it and then varnishing it as well.

Church services started here over a year ago, each Wednesday night and Sunday morning. The pastor says it's because a great place for families to come worship.

"Children love coming here. They run up to this place. The basketball courts, the woods. It's great thing that children are actually enjoying being in church," added DeJacimo.

All of the work is expected to be finally completed late this summer when they plan to have a big grand opening celebration. Mike Tyson will be getting an invite they say.
