AKRON, Ohio - The Akron Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine department has implemented a new app to streamline communication between injured athletes' parents, coaches, trainers and physicians.

Akron Children’s Hospital said the Healthy Roster app allows parents and coaches to have 24/7 access to student-athletes' injury assessments, details on any follow-up care that is needed and updates on when the athlete can safely return to sports.

The app also has live chat and video features that allow parents and athletes to contact athletic trainers.

The app is free for parents to download and is supported on Apple and Android devices.

The app will be implemented at more than 20 high schools across Northeast Ohio, some of them located in the Valley.
