WARREN, Ohio -  A Warren man arrested for allegedly threatening a fellow Family Dollar customer during an argument over proper social distancing now faces a federal charge.

Warren Police arrested 34-year-old George Vanderwall last week while investigating an allegation that a tall white male with face tattoos pulled a gun on a customer in line at the Family Dollar,1139 West Market Street.

According to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court, a store customer claims that when he complained that Vanderwall and his girlfriend were standing in line in front of him within a six-foot distance, Vanderwall allegedly pulled out a gun and said he would be waiting for the other customer outside the store.

Police searched the area and stopped Vanderwall and his girlfriend a couple of blocks north from the store on Ward St. NW.

According to the police report, 34-year-old George Vanderwall Jr. of Warren had a loaded 32 caliber handgun and baggies containing 36 rounds of ammunition in his pockets.

Police say Vanderwall’s girlfriend had a loaded .22 caliber gun in her hoodie pocket. Vanderwall, however, claimed both weapons belonged to him, according to the affidavit.

Warren Police charged Vanderwall with carrying a concealed weapon, aggravated menacing, and since he has a previous conviction of aggravated assault, police also charged him with having a weapon under a disability.

After an agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives reviewed store surveillance video from the incident, a federal charge of felon in possession of a firearm was filed against Vanderwall.

Vanderwall is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge Thursday afternoon in U.S. District Court.
