YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - After about two months of construction, Interstate 680 has fully reopened underneath the Mahoning Avenue bridge Wednesday afternoon.

One lane was closed both northbound and southbound so ODOT could finish construction on the bridge, which was damaged during a crash back in January.

The bridge reopened to traffic on Tuesday.

All ODOT needed to do to completely finish the reconstruction was to stripe the roads.

Officials said it was safe to reopen slightly early since all major steps of the project were complete.

The crash involving a car and a semi-truck damaged the support structure of the bridge.

"We opened [the bridge] back up when we deemed it was safe to do so. The pier column and pier cap, those had the extended time to cure and we lowered the bridge down on it," said ODOT District 4 Spokesman Ray Marsch. "We deemed it safe to do so, so obviously we wouldn't open back up if there was any concern."

Traffic was flowing smoothly as of late Wednesday afternoon.
