During its zoom meeting Friday, the Brookfield Township Trustees discussed long-term plans of projects for the township, including resurfacing projects, the need to replace sidewalks, flooding issues, and the parks. The other issue discussed was how to fund the projects.

Trustees Daniel Suttles, Gary Lees and Ron Haun discussed if the township receives some assistance from the government, they would like to resurface township roads but needed to clarify whether paving roads would qualify as infrastructure to meet the requirements if they are to receive funding. With assistance, Suttles suggested the idea of placing a road levy on a future election.

The trustees also discussed without help from the government would leave them with limited options, with the general fund not having even money for all the projects discussed.

The trustees discussed flooding issues in the township and discussed ways to reduce flooding during heavy rains, especially on King Graves and along Valley View Drive, and the need for storm sewer improvements in the areas. The funding for the project could come from Issue 1 funding the trustees said.

Road Supervisor Jamie Fredenburg discussed the possibility of paying for the needed drainage issues through property assessments to cover the costs.

Trustees voted on new lights for the parks at a cost no greater than $4,800.

Trustees also discussed how the community has not been receptive to the levies in the past to cover the cost of the needed improvements, saying a 2-mill road levy to help free up funds in the general fund.
